Several community issues were identified that can have an effect on the health of residents living within the township. Adolescent health issues, mental health, and vector borne diseases are several areas where risk factors are present in this geographical area.

One area of concern in this township is that of adolescent health. According to the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (HIV/AIDS, STD, and TB Services: County and Municipal Statistics, 2010), 267 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported in 2010 in people between the ages of 13 and 24, in Camden County alone. Another risk identified in this community is to mental health. Statistics show most people in this township live in densely populated areas, and commute anywhere from 30 minutes to upwards of 90 minutes each way to work. During rush hour traffic comes to almost a standstill and tempers can flare as one hears the sound of horns beeping, and becomes witness to dangerous driving manuevers as people attempt to get home at the end of a long work day. According to WebMD roadrage “can raise your blood pressure, foul up your immune system, and make you depressed” (WebMD, 2011, para 9).

The third area of concern for this area is the increased risk of vector borne disease because of the numerous mosquitos in the area. West Nile virus and St. Louis enchephalitis are both considered established in the area (Camden County, 2011).
