Excerpts aren't necessarily from the first page of these research papers.

Excerpt from this paper: There are four levels of measurement in statistical studies: ordinal, nominal, interval, and ratio. The uses of all of these levels of measurement are not always used in a study. Nominal measurements use numbers, words, or letters to classify data. Ordinal measurements represent an ordered relationship of data. Interval measurements represent the difference between values. Finally, ratio measurements show a comparison of numbers (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2010).

Example 2

Excerpt from this paper: An example of inferential statistics used in the workplace is the nosocomial infection log along with the data collected each month by staff. With the recorded data, the infection control manager bases predications for how many nosocomial infections a certain unit in the facility may have the next month based on the how data is interpreted from the descriptive data. An example of this would be if unit A3 had five cases of hospital acquired pneumonia for the month of April and unit A2 only had two cases of hospital acquired pneumonia for the month of April. It can be predicted that unit A2 is more diligent with their infection control and should only have two cases or less each month.

Example 3

Excerpt from this paper: Raw data gathered from SSI and CLABSI is an example of descriptive statistics. This data, when represented in graph form assists the viewer with a visual display of easily understood information (Bennett, Briggs& Triola, 2009). The number of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), hip, and colon surgeries performed monthly are also example of descriptive statistics collected in this facility. Other examples include infections acquired monthly by the long-term care residents, and core measures (evidence based patient care interventions shown to provide best outcomes) related to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and stroke (CVA).
