Decisions for the family are currently made by the parents, although the parents may not agree with each other. The decision of moving was made by TV related to finding a home with lower rent fee. JV feels since he is unemployed he has little say in this decision. Communication between wife and husband is ineffective when communicating about why JV has not found a job in three years. There are a lot of negative emotions from wife towards husband in his unemployment status. This family is experiencing the same hardships many Americans are facing with the inability to find employment. Prior to JV being unemployed he worked at his father’s business as a certified welder. The home environment is appropriate for the children, no risks identified. The children have no identified health problems and are current with their immunizations. The wife and husband both take medications for anxiety/depression. TV has no other health conditions. JV was diagnosed with diabetes within the past year.

Family Stress and Coping for Friedman Family Assessment Example 8

Stressors include JV being unemployed for three years. Also the stress of moving, this will be their fourth time moving in the past three years. They currently can’t afford rent payment and are being evicted. They are due in court May 24th, 2011. TV and JV coping mechanisms include talking with extended family and friends about their family situation. JV also admits to drinking on occasion to help with stress. JV feels that many of his friends have turned against him because he has been on unemployment for so long. TV relays on her parents and work friends for support. Both parents try and shelter the children from the effects of JV not working. Both agree they lack communication and support amongst each other. TV is at the point where she resents JV for not finding a job especially since unemployment benefits are about to end. JV has looked for employment but agrees that he needs to be more aggressive about looking for employment. By using the Friedman family assessment a nurse was able to identify three nursing diagnoses and appropriate nursing interventions.
