The Ken family lives in semi-attached house located in Brooklyn, New York. They live in a two story house with a front and back yard. The house has three bedrooms, the master bed room is occupied by the parents. One bed room is occupied by the daughter, and the other bed room is an office. The son lives in the basement area to provide him with independence. The area the Ken family lives in is a residential middle class neighborhood. The population in Mill Basin, according to Homes Point Two is approximately 86,253 people. In this neighborhood a large bulk of the population is between 35 to 55 years of age. The area is next to two parks, Marine and Strickland. In Mill Basin there is one elementary school P.S 203. Kingsborough is the closest college to Mill Basin, and they offer a two year associates degree. The closest hospital is New York community hospital. According to New York Community hospital (2012) it is, "A 134-bed, non-profit acute care hospital located in the Midwood/Madison Park section of Brooklyn. The hospital is a member of The New York Presbyterian Healthcare System and maintains an academic affiliation with The Weill Medical College of Cornell University."

Family Structure

The Ken family has the following roles: the mother is the bread-winner, cook, and nurturer; the father is the rule-enforcer and repairs broken devices in the house; Both parents share in the decision-making role. Their son and daughter still depend on their parents for financial and emotional support. They are both unique individuals preparing for a future family of their own one day. The parents are both smokers and have had in the past some significant health issues, the mother's breast cancer and father's kidney and pancreas transplants. However, their children do not have health issues, do not smoke and are in a generally good shape, although secondhand smoke from both of the parents often smoking in the house is a cause for concern for their future health. Communication among the family members is open, especially because the mother always encourages it and discusses problems with each member of the family.
